Heading to the mountains isn't all about skiing. Our children love playing in the snow and exploring the forests and mountains in the winter. Snowman making, snowball fights, plenty of snow eating, and just rolling around in it! They especially love it when it starts to snow. The times spent exploring seem to form some of their fondest memories.
Our girls love exploring the villages on the mountains, so much to see and do, and the snow gives it all a magical feel. After dark in mountains is when the villages really come alive. The lights, the people, food smells, music, apres, all makes a stroll around the village in the evening exiting.
Not matter which mountain we head to our girls are always keen to seek out a good spot for tobogganing. They can spend hours going up and down small slopes, giggling the whole time! Most of the time we find toboggans at the place we are staying but they are also very cheap to hire.
One of the first things our girls want to do each time we get to the snow (after eating it!) is to make a snowman.
The girls fell in love with ice skating while we were in Whistler the first time. There are some great skating rinks at Whistler, but the girl's favourite was the outdoor rink at 'Whistler Olympic Plaza'. They even got to ski with Santa the year we spent Christmas there.
Being from the southern hemisphere we have always wanted to experience a white Christmas! Having spent a ski season a couple of years before with the girls in Whistler, Canada, we thought it would be the ideal spot for our first white Christmas.
There is so much going on for families in Whistler during Christmas time.
The girls were so excited to have a real sleigh ride on Christmas eve on our White Christmas trip to Whistler. With blankets to keep you warm, a slow journey through the pines, and a hot chocolate in a little hut halfway, it was a great experience!
